Welcome to My Garden Journey
Hi, Kim here from The Urban Geek Mom Gardener. Nestled within a lush 1.11-acre suburban oasis in Georgia’s Zone 7b/8a, my garden is not just a plot of land—it’s a scene full of life where faith and gardening weave a tapestry of stewardship and spiritual growth.
The Art of Gardening: more than just Planting seeds
Gardening is much like nurturing one’s faith. Both require patience, hope, and a touch of divine trust. Picture this: you’re in the garden, hands in the earth, planting seeds. First, you could just plant them. Then step back. Finally, wholly trust the Lord to manage the rest. Of course, this shows immense faith, but you might miss the joys of being an active participant in nature’s miracles.
Alternatively, imagine you’re the master of your garden’s destiny. You prepare the soil meticulously, set up the latest irrigation tech, and closely watch every leaf and bud. While this shows great care, it might also hint at a reluctance to let God take control, leaning toward one’s own abilities rather than submitting to Him.
finding harmony in the garden
My approach? It’s all about balance. For instance, take the robust tomato plants that thrive in southern gardens. Initially, I start by enriching the soil and carefully matching its composition to the tomatoes’ needs. After planting, thorough watering follows, tuning into the plants’ needs and the whispers of our local climate. Although advanced irrigation technologies are embraced, they are used to enhance rather than control the natural growth processes, thus supporting the divine balance in my garden.
Then, I step back, putting my faith in a higher power. Regular checks on each plant’s health become routine as I trust the sun, rain, and soil to do their part. Fertilizer is added only when necessary, ensuring each plant receives its needs. In this way, it’s a dance of give and take—a partnership between my efforts and the divine forces that nurture growth.
why balance matters
This delicate balance of doing and trusting isn’t just a principle—it’s a life lesson. In our lives, just as in our gardens, we need to know when to take action and when to let go, trusting that the forces larger than us will step in when needed.
